1 Injured In Multi-Vehicle Crash
Driving is a serious task that requires the utmost attention and focus. When a person loses control of a vehicle, it can lead to a chain reaction crash.
That was what recently happened in Manchester Township. Three vehicles were involved in a crash just after noon on November 22.
An 84-year old woman from Manchester Township was driving a Lexus along Columbus Boulevard when she hit a parked Penske rental truck on its driver’s side. There was nobody inside the vehicle at the time.
The woman then accelerated and hit a parked Suburban on the rear driver’s side. That vehicle was unoccupied as well.
It was then that a group of bystanders tried to help the woman control her vehicle. One of them, a 32-year-old man, was hit in his right leg by the woman’s vehicle. He suffered minor injuries and was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River for treatment.
The woman finally stopped her vehicle. She was not injured in the crash. According to Manchester Police, the contributing factors in the crash are unsafe operation of a motor vehicle and driver inattention. The investigation is ongoing.
What is Driver Inattention?
Sometimes accidents are caused by driver inattention. Driver inattention is pretty much the same as distracted driving, but there is one main difference: the nature of the activity. Driver inattention is when a person is focused on internalized thoughts, while driver distraction requires external factors.
In any case, the driver is distracted by something. They are driving while engaging in other activities. Distractions compromise the safety of the driver as well as others on the roadway.

Manual distractions occur when you take your hands off the steering wheel. They may include looking for something, eating, or drinking. Cognitive distractions occur when a person is not mentally focused on the act of driving. This may include daydreaming or thinking about a work project.
