Morristown Side-Impact Collision Attorney

Experienced and Dedicated New Jersey Lawyer to Achieve Excellent Results on Your Behalf

A side-impact collision occurs any time a vehicle is struck on the side, most often when two vehicles are moving alongside one another and collide or sideswipe, or when one car broadsides or T-bones another at an intersection. The relative speed of the vehicles, their size and weight differential, and other factors such as each vehicle’s construction and built-in safety features, all determine the severity of the crash. The potential for catastrophic injury or death is always present in a side-impact accident, especially certain T-bone collisions.

It’s always important to call an experienced car accident attorney after any side-impact crash. In a T-bone collision, the injuries are likely to be costly and long-lasting, requiring extra effort to prepare and prove a case for the need for both immediate and long-term compensation. In a sideswipe, there are likely to be questions of which driver was at fault or if the drivers share some amount of comparative fault. Also, the insurance company may question your injuries and downplay the serious nature of the accident.

Morristown side-impact collision attorney Michael P. Burakoff has 40 years of experience helping car accident victims recover compensation in every type of collision, including side-impact crashes. Learn more about these types of accidents below, and call the Law Offices of Michael P. Burakoff, P.A. if you or a family member have been injured in a side-impact crash in Morristown, Newton, West New York and surrounding areas.

How do Side-Impact Crashes Happen?

Side-impact crashes happen just about everywhere on the road, from busy intersections to crowded parking lots. A frequent source of sideswipe accidents happens on multi-lane streets when a car illegally and dangerously attempts to make a right turn from the left lane or a left turn from the right lane. Side-impact collisions often occur in intersections when one of the drivers fails to yield the right-of-way. A less common cause of a sideswipe happens when a driver starts to turn right and is surprised to find another driver on the shoulder of the road attempting to pass the slowed, turning vehicle.

What are T-Bone Collisions?

A T-bone crash is a type of side-impact collision where the front or rear of one car hits squarely on the side of the other car. T-bone collisions are also known as broadside accidents. T-bone collisions are especially dangerous when the car hit on the side is rammed by a vehicle with a higher center of gravity, such as a pickup truck or SUV. In these crashes, the car is broadsided on the window area, which is structurally less sound than other parts of the vehicle. If equipped, side curtain airbags may offer some protection to the occupants of the car which is struck.

Another danger in a high-speed T-bone is that the struck vehicle may spin out of control or rollover, hitting other cars, pedestrians or fixed objects and causing severe injury or death to the occupants. Even if the airbags deployed upon the initial collision, the occupants won’t have such protection for subsequent collisions with other vehicles or fixed objects.
