Motorcyclist Killed in Fiery Crash in Parsippany-Troy Hills

Motorcycle7

Riding a motorcycle can be fun, but it comes with risks. Motorcycles can go very fast and it’s hard to maintain control of them at times. This can lead to a major crash.

A motorcycle recently crashed into an SUV and the result was a fatality. The motorcycle rider was killed in a fiery crash in Parsippany-Troy Hills on the afternoon of August 21.

The crash occurred near 100 Parsippany Road. The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office was informed of a serious accident involving a motorcycle and a Kia Sportage. Both vehicles were engulfed in flames.

The motorcyclist was taken to Morristown Medical Center, where they later died. The driver of the Kia Sportage was also taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The identities of the drivers have not been released. The crash remains under investigation by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, and Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Department.

Causes of Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcycle accidents can occur due to a variety of factors. Here are some common causes:

  • Driver negligence. Many accidents occur when other drivers fail to yield the right of way to motorcyclists. Texting, talking on the phone, or other distractions can cause drivers to miss seeing a motorcycle. Motorcyclists and other drivers speeding increases the likelihood of accidents. So does alcohol or drug impairment, which significantly reduces reaction times and decision-making abilities.
  • Lack of visibility. Motorcycles are smaller than cars, making them harder to see, especially in a driver’s blind spot. Poor visibility at night increases the risk of accidents. Rain, fog, or glare from the sun can also reduce visibility.
  • Rider error. New riders may lack the skills or judgment needed to safely navigate roads. Sudden steering or braking can cause a rider to lose control. Lane splitting or weaving in and out of traffic can increase the risk of collisions.
  • Road conditions. Uneven or damaged road surfaces can cause a motorcycle to lose balance. Objects on the road, like gravel, leaves, or spilled oil, can lead to accidents. Rain, ice, or loose gravel on the road can reduce traction and cause skidding.
  • Mechanical failures. Sudden tire failures can cause a rider to lose control. Faulty brakes can prevent a motorcyclist from stopping in time.
  • Aggressive driving. Following too closely leaves little room for error. Rapid lane changes or aggressive maneuvering increases accident risk.
  • Intersection accidents. One of the most common causes of motorcycle accidents occurs when a vehicle turns left in front of an oncoming motorcycle. Running red lights and stop signs can also lead to serious accidents at intersections.
