Teen, 2 Adults Killed in Crash on Garden State Parkway
Driving is a task that requires a lot of attention to the roadways. This is especially true after dark, when visibility is reduced and it is harder to see where you are going.
Unfortunately, a recent late-night crash on the Garden State Parkway claimed the lives of a family. Two adults and a teen were killed in a solo-vehicle crash just before midnight on September 14 in Woodbridge Township.
A 54-year-old man was driving a Tesla on the northbound side of Garden State Parkway when the car ran off the road for unknown reasons. The car then hit a sign, guardrail, and concrete bridge support. The impact caused fatalities to the man and his two passengers, a 54-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl. All three victims, who are from Woodcliff Lake, died at the accident scene.
The family had been at the See. Hear. Now. Festival in Asbury Park and were returning home when the fatal accident occurred. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Woodcliff Lake Mayor Carlos A. Rendo created a post on Facebook offering his condolences.
“I just received word of this terrible tragedy. I have ordered that our flags be lowered. I am in shock. Please keep the family in your prayers.”
The Valley Chabad Jewish Center in Woodcliff Lake held a memorial the following evening for the family, which has been identified as David Dryerman, the driver, and his passengers as his wife, Michelle, and daughter, Brooke, a senior at Pascack Hills High School. Their 19-year-old son was away at college at the time of the crash. He created a GoFundMe page to help with expenses and donate to various charities. So far, it has raised more than $185,000.
Dangers of Driving in the Dark
Besides reduced visibility, driving in the dark can be dangerous for the following reasons:
